Looking for a fun, indoor activity to help your youngster burn some energy? My toddler and I attended Indoor Fun Play hosted by Transylvania County Parks and Recreation and had an incredible time! If you have never been before, keep it in mind as the weather gets colder.
If you are anything like me, as a parent or caregiver, it can be hard to think of new ideas to keep my child engaged and stimulated. We both enjoy getting out of the house and trying something new. Indoor Fun Play is great local resource for children to explore that offers toys and activities we have not been able to find elsewhere. The entire gym is converted into a young child’s paradise with inflatable bounce houses, balls of all sizes, an inflatable soccer field, tunnels, huge building blocks, mats for rolling and somersaulting, and so much more.
Family Bonding Ideas
– Observe. If you are the one that takes the child on a new outing, it can be beneficial to sit back and watch him/her explore the new surroundings. By paying close attention to how your child plays and/or what your child is attracted to, you can learn about personality, temperament, likes and dislikes. Being in a room full of toddlers and young children, you will quickly see that not all children are the same – your child has a unique way of doing things and interacting with others. Understanding and appreciating these differences, may help you to observe his/her strengths and gifts and also areas where he/she may need additional assistance and encouragement.
– Engage. It was a lot of fun to see my daughter play and interact with these huge toys that we would not be able to purchase for the house. I helped her do somersaults down the foam wedge and we played soccer together in the big inflatable soccer field (mostly she just flung herself into the inflatable sides). But after getting some new ideas and seeing what she really enjoyed, we were able to come home and replicate some of the activities. We brought the rest of the family into the fun by showing off the new skills and tricks she learned.
– Discuss. Talking about the experience together and with the rest of the family is a great way to share the fun. My husband works during the day, but he always enjoys listening to the stories and hearing about our daughter’s new interests. While making dinner or before bedtime, we enjoyed talking about the Indoor Fun Play and recreating some of the highlights. Even children who are not talking yet will benefit from the discussion. It is fascinating to watch a toddler remember and try to communicate the experience!
– Other ideas. We would highly recommend the Indoor Fun Play to anyone and everyone who is able to attend. But if you can’t make it, there are so many other ways to experience a new outing with your child in our area! Check out the Resource Guide included in this month’s toolkit for family friendly outdoor destinations, rainy day ideas, and Sesame Street activities. Parks and walks outside are a great way to let your child explore and experiment in new environments.
