Research has shown children who attend preschool programs, quality childcare or early learning programs aren’t just learning socialization skills or becoming more familiar with numbers and words: they’re setting the stage for both academic and life success. The younger your child is exposed to the thrill of learning and discovery, the more curious and engaged they will be throughout their lives.
In Transylvania County, you can find preschool and early education opportunities through these Get Set Transylvania partners:
The Family Place offers family resources and prepares fun, educational activities for parents and children, ages 0-12, with a special emphasis on 0-6 year-old children. The organization provides drop-in playgroups for parents/caregivers and their children, frequent local field trips. Their Circle of Parents groups offer a great way to build community with other families. The Family Place also offers parenting classes, a Family Learning Garden, English as a second language classes, and community playgroups, a mobile resource for parents/caregivers and their children, ages 0-6 years. The Family Place is primarily funded through grants and donations, resulting in no cost to participating families for its programs.
Community Playgroups are a brand new mobile resource program coming to the community through a collaboration between El Centro and The Family Place and funded by United Way. The playgroups are designed with several goals in mind: child development, early intervention, school readiness, and/or parental support and education.
The facilitated playgroups will go throughout the county to predetermined locations, some rural some within the city, one site per day each week. Facilitators will assist parents and children in developmentally appropriate activities. They will provide information on community resources, give support and the opportunity to build relationships with other parents/caregivers and their children.
