RECREATION

Physical activity is a key component of childhood development. Over the past three years, Transylvania Count Parks and Recreation has been working directly with the Early Childhood Initiative and Get Set Transylvania to develop new programs geared toward young children.

Silvermont Park, Transylvania County’s newest recreational facility, is the first county playground designed for children as young as two-years-old.

Additionally, Parks and Recreation has added programming for young children that includes summer camp opportunities, Start Smart basketball, indoor play during cooler months, expanded Christmas activities and, the newest, flag football. The department has also invested in a new portable imagination playground.
