SAFE, Inc. of Transylvania County
SAFE offers 24/7 crisis response for cases of domestic and sexual abuse. Call 828-885-7233 In addition, they offer programs and services to support longer-term recovery and healing.
Children's Center of Transylvania County
The Children's Center of Transylvania County has several programs to support families:
- Emergency Assistance – Special help for families in crisis, including transportation, medicine, gas vouchers, diapers, etc. Individual counseling also provided in certain cases.
- Connect – A program designed to keep families stable and safe, to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to support families who may not be served by traditional community agencies.
Sharing House
Sharing House is a source of compassion and crisis assistance for our low-income (up to 200% above poverty line) neighbors in Transylvania County, where we offer food and fresh produce, gently-used clothes, rent and utility assistance, household goods, camping equipment, hot showers, a safe place to share stories of struggle... and a refuge of social interaction. We also empower people who seek paths to self-reliance, through special programs such as "Wheels to Work" and the Bridges Out of Poverty mentoring class called "Getting Ahead".
The Mediation Center
The Mediation Center’s mission is to create opportunity from conflict. They provide free community mediation of interpersonal conflicts as well as supervised child visitation services.

Community Action Opportunities/ Life Works Program
Life Works helps families increase their income by supporting them with education/training, helping them obtain full time, living-wage work while learning to manage their finances. Our team can work with you on everything from child care to career counseling, financial assistance to housing.

NCWorks Career Center Henderson County/Transylvania County is dedicated to connecting businesses and employees through career planning, training, and placement services.

The Transylvania County Department of Social Services administers a variety of financial assistance programs, inluding: WorkFirst, Child Care Subsidy, Energy Assistance, Nutrition Assistance, Medicaid, and much more.

Brevard Housing Authority
Brevard Housing Authority owns and manages 163 public housing units at five locations across town. One of those units has been converted to a community resource center that provides after school services and enrichment programs, as well as a summer nutrition site, and is available for other community outreach programs. New residents are considered based upon income eligiblity.
The Haven
The Haven assists families and individuals in crisis in Transylvania County by providing safe temporary refuge in a clean, comfortable shelter.

WNCSource offers several programs for very low and low income families to achieve stable housing.

Pisgah Legal Services
Pisgah Legal Services seeks to pursue justice by providing legal assistance and advocacy to help low-income people in Western North Carolina meet their basic needs and improve their lives. Pisgah Legal Services provides free civil legal aid to people who live in poverty in areas such as: housing, safety from abuse, health care, income, and immigration; Pisgah partners with dozens of other agencies to make sustainable change for people in crisis and improves systems and policies that impact the lives of thousands of low-income people.

God's Way Food Pantry
Gods Way Food Pantry exists to meet food support needs to the residents of communities surrounding Balsam Grove. Our goals are to also educate, enable, and encourage methods to develop self-sustaining abilities that will establish greater food security to the families and the communities we serve. Food Pantry distributions are every other Saturday 10-11:30a. Urgent needs are met on an as needed basis. We provide food assistance to any in need. No one is ever charged, no one is turned away. We serve families in crisis, the elderly, and chronically ill. We are neighbors helping neighbors!

Transylvania Public Health/Women Infant Children (WIC) Office
WIC is available for women who are pregnant, have recently given birth or are breastfeeding, or have infants and children up to age 5. Eligible families receive food vouchers, one-on-one education and counseling, breastfeeding support, and health care referrals.
