Helping Young Children Thrive, Learn & Grow

GetSet WNC is an engaged community that values our young children and their families and strives to achieve the best educational, health, and developmental outcomes by creating nurturing, thoughtful, and collaborative community-based resources and connections.

Why Western North Carolina

Though the mostly rural landscape of WNC creates many challenges, the culture and closeness of communities have created a thriving environment for collaboration and innovation, both locally and regionally, when it comes to helping young children thrive, learn, and grow.

With a rich regional patchwork of unique and diverse mountain and foothills communities, advocates, organizations, and educators of the western region of North Carolina are thoughtfully co-acting to bring support, resources, and attention to the resilience needs of the region's youngest children and their families.

Achieving Our Goals

GetSet WNC is the initiative working to expand SSIC across Western North Carolina. GetSet WNC works in partnership with Raising Resilience WNC, a collaborative group of the western regional Smart Start partners. North Carolina’s Smart Start Network collaborates within its local communities to design evidence-based services in early childhood.

In 2019, the western region Smart Start partners joined with Nonprofit Pathways to build internal capacity and shared language around Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

Raising Resilience WNC

Raising Resilience WNC has designed a locally responsive approach to building resilient communities involving three approaches to implement over three years, leading to a systems-level impact across the region.

They designed a locally-responsive approach to building resilient communities through micro, mezzo, and macro-level solutions.

The three approaches of this project include a regional expansion of Sesame Street In Communities through GetSet WNC, Resources for Resilience Reconnect Trainings, and the Center for Trauma Resilient Communities Resilience Academies. This project is designed to strengthen resilience skills throughout the individual and organizational levels.

With this broad community-based approach, we have the potential to create a regional system capable of supporting positive early childhood experiences and relationships.
